Jake’s Choice 2010, Walt the 1930 Ford Model A
Posted By Jake's Party Planner on August 10, 2010
Walt is the Name of the car that won Jake’s Choice this year. He was chosen for many reasons and a big one being he traveled about 150 miles and 4 hours all the way from Salem Oregon to participate in the show, this is not a huge deal for most of us but take a look at old Walt this would be a fun yet rough loud ride. I asked Brett Freeman the owner and builder of Walt to tell me a little about Walt and here is his response.
**Wish I had a better shot of the 49 Delux owned by Brian Martin behind Walt it was a beauty, I’m sure one will surface soon.
Walt (the car got it’s name from everyone’s reaction to first seeing the car and saying “it looks like the car from the Walton’s”) is an original steel 1930 Ford Model A 5 window coupe with a 4inch chop, Chevy 350 with 3 2 barrel carburetors, 3 speed automatic transmission no hood, no fender, bare bones hot rod. Chrome steelies and wide whites, Ford 8 inch rear end, 4 inch dropped I-beam front axle on a TCI Chassis. Original gas tank houses the gauges, and a Mexican blanket for interior. Flip out windshield is the only form of A/C in the car. All work was done over 3 and a half by my dad (William Freeman, Thanks for the help Dad!) and myself in a single car garage and in the driveway. The car has been on the road for less than a year and already put around 1000 miles so far!
The Jakes Choice Award is created every year by the one and only William Bivins of My Dementia. Over the past two years he has amazed everyone with his creation, I give him a little idea of what I’m looking for and K Blam he produces a work of art fitting of the prestige this award carries.
*creepy side note the hair on the award belongs to William himself*
In addition to this amazing piece of art Max Renhart of Skull Clown creates 50 original signed and numbered art pieces for the registered cars.
I am proud to have Max, William and Jeff and Kelly of Vintage Roadside as the main contributing artists to the show, along with all the fantastic photographers and other artists, entertainers and beautiful people who collaborate to create a one of a kind stunning event.
Of honorable mention another rough ride from Salem Oregon was made in this 1947 Doge owned by Darren Curl.
Cute 63 Chevy family truckster in the background:)
